Multinational hotel operators hit harder by changes to royalties
Changes to calculating royalties that hospitality industry companies pay on the music their guests hear put multinational hotel operators at a disadvantage, daily Népszabadság said on Wednesday. Earlier, hotels paid the royalties based on number of rooms; now, the calculation has been adjusted to occupancy rates in some categories, Máté Victor, who heads the Hungarian Bureau for the Protection of Authors' Rights (Artisjus), told the paper. A representative of the Hungarian Hotel and Restaurant Association who asked not to be named told the paper that the new rule was discriminatory.
