More than 22 tons of noodles off from Tesco shelves

Food

Hungarian food safety authorities have fined the Hungarian unit of UK supermarket chain Tesco and ordered it to pull about 22.5 tons of improperly labeled noodles that do not meet quality requirements from its shelves, the Rural Development Ministry said late Tuesday.

The Pest County Government Office Directorate for Food Safety and Animal Health fined Tesco Global more than HUF 800,000 for selling "Granny's Noodles" brand dried noodles in packaging that did not reveal the address of the producer. The fine was also levied because the authorities found that the egg content of the noodles was less than one-fourth of the "four-egg" description on the packaging.

Tesco Global must pay for the cost of returning the product to the Czech Republic, where it was made, or destroy it.
