The teams "Road to Buda" from France and "Snelle Planga" from the Netherlands won the 12th edition of "Freshhh," Hungarian oil and gas company MOLʼs international online student competition, says a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.
"Freshhh" is an online competition for university students, where participants have to direct an integrated oil industry company. The three-person teams must make daily decisions about land development, building a refinery, setting up a retail network, and creating the best product portfolio.
For the latest edition of the contest, applications arrived from more than 70 countries around the globe, with a grand total of more than 1,000 applying teams. The six best teams came from Croatia, France, the Netherlands, and Poland.
Two rounds of virtual gaming were followed by a live final, where the participants familiarized themselves with the main pillars of the MOL Groupʼs 2030 strategy, crafted solutions for potential problems in different business segments, and presented their ideas about making the oil and gas industry more popular among talented youth. Finally, the students received an opportunity to showcase their cooperating, negotiating, and presenting abilities in a debate.
The jury, consisting of MOLʼs upper management, elected the aforementioned "Road to Buda" and "Snelle Planga" teams as joint winners, with the French "Oilʼbelieveable" team coming in third. Team "Godot" from Croatia received a special award. The teams on the podium received prizes worth a total of EUR 25,000.
"The popularity of the latest Freshhh contest once again proves that MOL knows how to get in touch with the digital generation," said Zdravka Demeter Bubalo, MOL Groupʼs HR director. "I am glad to see that thanks to our talent programs, the youth sees MOL as a place where work is not only exciting, but rewarding as well, and also a place where they can build a thriving career. We are constantly rethinking and reworking our programs to keep ourselves attractive for newer and newer generations. Their fresh and innovative energy is indispensable for the realization of the transformation laid out in the MOL 2030 strategy."
Since the programʼs 2007 start, MOL has employed more than 120 former "Freshhh" participants, with many of them now working in high-level expert and management positions.
Last yearʼs winners joined MOL within the framework of the so-called "Engineer Academy Program," now working at a chemical industry project regarded as MOLʼs flagship.
"It happened so fast after we won Freshhh," said Emánuel Kovács, a member of last yearʼs winning team. "Last year our entire team joined MOL as a part of the Engineer Academy Program, and we immediately started working on the firmʼs largest project. The Polyol project is one of the cornerstones of MOLʼs petrochemical expansion, the main pillar of the MOL 2030 strategy, and hence itʼs a really exciting thing to be a close part of the companyʼs transformation."
