Media authority upholds decision awarding mobile frequency to newcomer
Hungary's National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) has upheld a decision to award a frequency block to a newcomer to Hungary's mobile telecommunications market, the authority told MTI on Monday.
The decision was taken in a second-instance procedure by NMHH deputy chairman for telecommunications Gábor Mátrai. It may be appealed at the Budapest Municipal Court within 30 days.
The appeal was lodged by the three existing market players, Magyar Telekom, Telenor and Vodafone, after the NMHH decided to give a consortium of Magyar Posta, the Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) and a unit of the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB) a 5MHz frequency block in the 900MHz band, the biggest block offered.
Magyar Telekom said on Monday that it filed an appeal with the Budapest Municipal Court requesting the decision naming the consortium of state-owned companies be annulled along with "certain relating requirements of the final decision".
