Magyar Telekom sold its widely read news portal origo.hu to New Wave Media Kft, owner of online daily vs.hu, Magyar Telekom CEO Christopher Mattheisen announced today.

The online daily was sold for €13.2 million, approximately HUF 4.2 mln, with the transaction to be closed in the first half of next year, origo.hu reported.

Mattheisen said he was sure that Hungary’s competition office GVH will greenlight the purchase. The CEO said he was sad to sell origo.hu, but added that Magyar Telekom is going through some reorganization, and they will be focusing on the core operations of the company.
