Magyar Telekom named most transparent Hungarian company

The most recent annual survey of company transparency undertaken by Portfolio.hu was released yesterday. While reporting that overall transparency has decreased and that “transparency of Hungary’s listed companies has been diminishing since 2010 and it was not any different this year,” a few companies still managed respectable scores.

With analysis and opinion collected from 19 firms and institutions, Magyar Telekom (MTel) was named most transparent with a score of 8.2 of a possible 10 in the 14th annual Portfolio survey; last year’s winner Graphisoft Park fell to second place.

Graphisoft Park was once again the only non-BSE blue-chipper in the top six of the rankings, as places three through six were filled by Egis, Richter, MOL, and OTP, respectively; OTP saw the biggest drop in the survey, falling three spots from its 2012 ranking.

Heating services supplier E-Star finished last among the 12 companies considered, a finish Portfolio attributed to its position of “right in the middle of a reorganization scheme.” Penultimate finisher PannErgy was advised by one respondent to strive to publish more regular and more cautious statements, with more quantitative indications when informing the market about changes affecting its operations, one of the respondents noted.

The full list is as follows, with 2012 rankings in parentheses.

1. Magyar Telekom (2)
2. Graphisoft Park (1)
3. Egis (5)
4. Richter (6)
5. MOL (4)
6. OTP (3)
7. Rába (8)
8.Állami Nyomda (7)
9. FHB Bank (9)
10. CIG Pannónia (n/a)
11. PannErgy (10)
12. E-Star (11)
