The municipal councils of Gyula, Kaposvár and Pápa could put pump a combined HUF 7 billion into troubled meat companies that employed hundreds of locals, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Saturday, citing industry insiders.

The paper learnt for local council sources that the amount could be closer to HUF 5.5 billion.

Local council employees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the paper Gyula could inject HUF 1.7 billion into the local meat plant, while the plant in Kaposvár would get HUF 2.3 billion and the one in Pápa would get almost HUF 1.5 billion.

Gyula mayor Ernő Görgényi said in Monday's issue of daily Magyar Hírlap that the local council would establish a company to acquire troubled meat packer Gyulai Húskombinát in one or two weeks.
