Lime, an innovative mobility service offering e-scooters, has arrived in Budapest with some 200 e-scooters available for use in the capital, within the framework of the Cities4People R&D project coordinated by the municipality, says a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

The service was launched on May 1, with e-scooters available in the area near the banks of the Danube on both the Buda and Pest sides during the test period, which will run until June 30.

In Buda, the areas include the section between Batthyány tér and Műegyetem rakpart, as well as the area between Lágymányos and Móricz Zsigmond körtér. On the Pest side, the area stretches from Szabadság híd to Kálvin tér, with the campus of Corvinus University also included, all the way to Boráros tér.

According to the press release, Limeʼs scooters will offer a new alternative for transport around the city, complementing the already existing options, providing a fast and simple method for commuting to work, or getting around the city for leisure activities.

"Budapest is a great city, with significant demand for increasing micromobility, henceforth weʼre very glad that we can start Limeʼs e-scooter sharing service," says Tamás Tóth, Limeʼs representative for Hungary. "Together with the municipality, weʼre working on finding a solution to urban challenges such as transportation burdened by traffic jams. Limeʼs electric scooters are an entertaining, smart, and convenient alternative for short trips in the city, contributing to improvement of the quality of city life."

Cities4People is a project supported by the EU, aimed at finding sustainable and people-centric transportation solutions as an answer to urban mobility challenges. The initiative is active in five European locations: Budapest, Hamburg, Istanbul, Trikala in Greece, and Barton, a suburb of Oxford, U.K.
