Investigation of 21 companies launched on suspected cartel activity

The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) launched an investigation of 21 Hungarian medical supply manufacturers charging them with suspected cartel activities, GVH announced yesterday, according to reports.

The authority said it is possible that the companies negotiated with each other and shared information connected to public tenders for acquiring diagnostic imaging equipment, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The investigation is set to be completed in six months, however, it can be extended to a period of one year if the complexity of the case requires, MTI reported. The authority began carrying out on-site inspections of the companies without prior notice.

The companies involved include Siemens Healthcare, GE Hungary Ipari és Kereskedelmi, Philips Magyarország, Variotrade, HOGE Orvosi Műszer, Premier G. Med, Med&Trade Co., Innomed Medival, and Euromedic Dent, among others, MTI reported.
