Wizz Air to lease Airbus aircraft from GE
Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air Kft has signed an agreement with GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) to lease four new A320 passenger aircraft, Wizz Air announced on Wednesday.
Under the agreement, Wizz Air will take delivery of the aircraft in 2008. GECAS will purchase the planes from Airbus Industries and will be lease them to Wizz Air for 11 years. The deal is part of a contract Wizz Air signed earlier with Airbus on the purchase of 44 new Airbus A320 aircraft.
Wizz Air director József Váradi said the airline aims to strengthen its position in the region by expanding its fleet. Wizz Air operates flights to Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania, and holds 28% of the capacity of low-fare airlines operating in Hungary. It has carried more than 5 million passengers since setting up in 2004.
GECAS owns 1,400 aircraft, which it leases to 225 airlines in 70 countries.
