Wizz Air Forced to Cancel Some U.K. Flights Due to Weather

Transport

Discount airline Wizz Air has released a statement explaining that the company had to cancel or delay several flights in the United Kingdom due to adverse weather conditions.

Heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions hit the United Kingdom on December 11, causing major disruption to public transport and air travel.

The disruption to ground public transport meant that airport staff (including security, ground handling and aircraft de-icing staff) were unable to get to work and over 10 centimeters of snow in and around airports prevented aircraft from taking off and landing, the airline explained

Like other airlines, Wizz Air was forced to cancel or significantly delay several departures and arrivals from London-Luton and London-Gatwick airports.

"The Wizz Air team is making every effort to restore operations, but there are factors - such as weather conditions - over which the airline has no control. Wizz Air has sent information about the current situation and the possibility of rebooking flights to passengers who booked directly on wizzair.com or via the mobile app. Passengers booking through intermediaries or travel agents should contact the companies concerned for this information," the airline wrote.

The airline is working with its local partners to provide accommodation for passengers stranded in the United Kingdom, but this is taking longer than expected due to the crisis affecting the whole country, Wizz Air explains.
