Szolnok city introduces bank card payment for buses

Transport

Magyar Telekom, Mastercard, OTP Bank and NETLOCK have introduced a new system in Szolnok which enables passengers of the public transport system to pay for their fares using MasterCard® and Maestro® with a single touch, the firms announced yesterday in a joint statement.

The passenger needs only to touch a reader with their card when boarding local buses and the fare will automatically be withdrawn from their account, the statements says. Once the transaction is processed, the passenger will receive a receipt for a single trip of up to 30 minutes.

The bank card is used as an official travel document, therefore ticket controllers can verify the card with a device. The press release noted that the new system will make traveling faster and easier. It will also be cost-effective for the transport company, and could save money in the long run.
