New flights from Budapest to Amsterdam, Larnaca
Low-cost airlines Transavia.com, a member of the Air France-KLM group, and Wizz Air have launched new flights from Budapest to Amsterdam and Larnaca, Cyprus, respectively, Budapest Airport (BA) said late on Wednesday.
BA said Transavia.com will fly the new-type Boeing 737-700 aircraft, which can seat up to 189 passengers, four times weekly - on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday - to Amsterdam. Budapest-Amsterdam flights were earlier operated by Malév and KLM, which continues to fly three times a day between Budapest and Amsterdam.
Also on Wednesday, Wizz Air launched two weekly flights to Larnaca, which also used to be part of Malév's offer. Wizz Air now has the biggest fleet at Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport, with six Airbus A320 aircraft.
Another low-cost airline is to start operations from Budapest on Friday, the Prague-based SmartWings, which will start off with two weekly flights between Budapest and Paris, and will also add Barcelona later on. In addition to scheduled flights, SmartWings will operate charter flights as well in the summer, to popular Greek and Bulgarian holiday destinations.
National carrier Malév stopped operation on February 3, was placed in receivership, and is currently managed by a special administrator.
