MÁV-Start, the passenger business of state-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV, has signed a public procurement contract to purchase 115 electric locomotives from Siemens Mobility and Siemens Mobility Austria, Innovation and Technology Minister László Palkovics said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

MÁV-Start will use the locomotives to renew its InterCity service and expand its InterCity+ service, Palkovics said.

Based on the signed framework agreement, delivery contracts could be signed this year and the first locomotives acquired through the contracts could be put into service in 2024, the minister said.
