Malev board chairman says government committed to airline

Chairman of the Board Janos Berenyi of Hungarian national carrier Malev said on Tuesday that the government’s Monday designation of Malev as a "business of prime strategic significance" is evidence of its commitment to the airline.
Mr Berenyi said that the status provides Malev with protection under which it can continue to operate according to schedule, adding that there other airlines functioning under bankruptcy protection.
Mr Berenyi remarked in response to a question that passengers that the International Air Transport Association IATA, insurance companies and the airline itself provide passengers with multiple guarantees that they will be reimbursed for the price of purchased tickets in the event that Malev were forced to cancel flights.
