BUDPORT invests HUF 1 bln at Budapest airport

BUDPORT Handling Kft. is implementing a HUF 1 billion capital expenditure program at Ferenc Liszt International Airport between now and the end of May, the company said in a press statement sent to the Budapest Business Journal today.

The company, which recently acquired its full ground handling license, currently has 100 employees, but expects to create 150 jobs at the Budapest airport as a result of the investment.

BUDPORT says it is using its own resources to purchase the equipment, including mobile stairways, logistics machinery and technical equipment to service almost any type of aircraft.

Ground handling consists of a series of tasks requiring significant resources and precision, including check-in, boarding, the preparation of aircraft for takeoff, and baggage handling, with the aim of facilitating the safe and punctual departure of flights, the company said. Once the investment program is completed, BUDPORT expects to have all the personnel and equipment required to handle any kind of flight, including wide-bodied planes.

“We have opted to purchase the most modern equipment available, which enables us to compete in airline tenders on our own,”  said Ferenc Galgóczy, the managing director and owner of BUDPORT Handling. “Thanks to our technical standards and the flexible decision-making mechanisms of our company, we have built up a significant competitive advantage in the market over our competitors, who have been present at the airport for longer. We are more creative and innovative, and we have already proven this in the area of passenger handling as well,” he claimed.

According to public records, the company posted HUF 1.35 billion revenues and HUF 232 million profit in 2015, state news agency MTI reported.
