Budget airlines and economy put pressure on charter flights
The outlook for Hungary's charter flight market is “not too reassuring”, a spokesman for Budapest Airport said in business daily Világgazdaság on Monday. “Last year, a total of 403,964 passengers availed of charter flight services, up 2% from 2011,” Mihály Hardy told the paper. “The outlook for this year is not too reassuring, first of all because of falling purchasing power, but also in part because low-fare airlines have launched flights to a number of traditional charter destinations,” he added. Budapest Airport, which operates Liszt Ferenc International Airport, projects a 10% drop in charter flight passengers this year. Travel Service, Hungary's biggest charter operator, expects this year's summer season to be about the same as last year's, said managing director Attila Farkas.
