Békéscsaba awards HUF 1.5 bln airport contract
Members of the local council of Békéscsaba (200 km southeast of Budapest) voted unanimously last week to award a close to HUF 1.5 billion contract to TERV-TÁR Tervező, Kivitelező és Szolgáltató and MKB Consulting to plan an upgrade of the city's airport.
Press reports have put a price tag of HUF 30 bln-35 bln on the project.
Planning for the redevelopment, which includes the addition of a 2,500-meter runway, could wind up by the end of 2024, clearing the way for construction to start in 2025, a local MP said earlier.
Airbus is building a helicopter parts plant in nearby Gyula (215 km southeast of Budapest), and Minister for Innovation and Technology László Palkovics has said developing the Békéscsaba airport could contribute to the success of the facility.
