Austrian Airlines to scrap Pécs-Vienna flights

Transport

Austrian Airlines will discontinue its scheduled flights between Vienna and the Pécs-Pogány airport in southwest Hungary from November 10, the airport's operator said on Thursday.

Air Horizont Pécs-Pogány Fejlesztésért director István Kőhegyi said he was saddened by the news, especially considering passenger numbers on the flights had risen from just 3-5 at the start to 25-30 more recently. Austrian Airline started offering four flights a week between the two cities at the end of March. Kőhegyi said the airport was in talks with a German airline on offering flights between Pécs and Dresden, Stuttgart and Frankfurt. The local council of Pécs and the council of Baranya County have so far invested Ft 4 billion at the Pécs-Pogány airport. (Mti-Eco)
