Staple food price cap compliance strong
Government officials have found 42 violations in a price cap compliance probe of over 500 shops, the Innovation and Technology Ministry said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The government has rolled back prices for granulated sugar, BL 55 flour, refined sunflower seed oil, pork leg, chicken breast and back, and UHT cow's milk with 2.8% fat content to levels on October 15 in an effort to dampen inflation. The price caps are in place for a period of three months from February 1.
The ministry said fines totaling HUF 300,000 were levied on businesses for violating the price cap rules. A single shop was fined HUF 100,000 for selling cooking oil at over 50% the regulated price.
