Sales of Kokárdás products, a Hungarian dairy brand the local unit of German discount chain Aldi Hungary acquired in 2018, rose about 25% last year, Aldi Hungary managing director Bernhard Haider said in a recent issue of business daily Világgazdaság.

Aldi Hungary acquired the brand, a first for the company, from Alföldi Tej for an undisclosed consideration. Aldi Hungary now sells 19 Kokárdás products in close to 40 variations, including milk, sour cream, yoghurt, whipping cream, cottage cheese, butter, and cheese. The retailer will soon roll out a Kokárdás brand mascarpone.

Some Kokárdás products have also been put on sale at Aldi shops in Poland. The brand's name translates as "cockade", a ribbon rosette of the national colors adopted by revolutionaries in 1848 as a symbol of independence and still worn by Hungarians on the March 15 national holiday.
