Romania Retail Sales Growth Slows in July

Retail sales in Romania went up 1.2% year-on-year in July, slowing from a 2% rise in the previous month, the Bucharest-based National Institute of Statistics (INS) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Sales eased to a seven-month low for food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.3% vs 1.4% in June), as trade moderated for specialized shops (18% vs 21.3%) and dropped for non-specialized shops (-0.3% vs 0.6%).
At the same time, sales continued to fall for automotive fuel (-4.2% vs -2.5%).
On the other hand, sales rose for non-food products (5.4% vs 5.1%), driven by increased sales in specialized shops (7.9% vs 7.3%).
On a monthly comparison basis, retail trade declined 0.3%, cooling from a 1.9% decrease in June.
