As of August, customers can pay with their SZÉP cards in all 229 Hungarian units of Penny, the retail chain tells the Budapest Business Journal.

"I am happy to announce that Penny will once again join the range of locations where SZÉP cards are accepted. The technical preparation of our entire network has already taken place last spring to include this payment option. Therefore, from August 1, 2023, all Penny stores will once again be ready for the Széchenyi Pihenő Card to be used for payment," said Eszter Kazatsay, Penny’s head of communications in Hungary.

In accordance with the government decree, the store chain enables payment with the Széchenyi Pihenő Card in all 229 units in Hungary, between August 1 and December 31, 2023.

Pursuant to the relevant government decree, the total amount transferred to the card can also be used for the purchase of cold food at merchants belonging to the relevant fields of activity between August 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.

The payment option only applies to specific food product categories, as beverages containing alcohol, tobacco, and processed tobacco substitute products are exceptions. It is also important to note that the option is valid only until the date regulated in the decree, December 31, 2023.
