Issue of food vouchers to become state monopoly from 2012

Retail

The issue of food vouchers will become a state monopoly from January, the head of the issuer of the new "Erzsebet Vouchers" said on Tuesday.

The Hungarian National Recreation Foundation (MNUA) will issue the Erzsebet Vouchers which may be used for both hot and cold food, said MNUA chairman Endre Horvath.

The legislation on the vouchers was approved by Parliament late Monday.

Employers pay a preferential payroll tax on the vouchers up to HUF 5,000 a month or a monthly HUF 12,500 at workplaces with a cafeteria that serves hot food. At workplaces with cafeterias, employers may opt to issue their own vouchers that may only be used on site.
