Intersport to open at least five new stores in Hungary in 2007
Bern-based international sporting goods retailer Intersport will open five new stores in Hungary next year, with even more projected openings currently in the planning and negotiation stage, according to an article in the Thursday issue of business daily Világgazdaság.
Intersport opened its first three Hungarian stores this year in county capitals, with its initial Budapest store planned for 2007. Intersport aims to capture a 30% share of Hungary's €400 million-plus sporting goods market by 2010. Intersport's Hungarian expansion is currently being conducted through the company's Austrian unit under the franchise system.
Intersport is the world's largest sporting-goods retailer, with 4,800 stores selling products under both its own and other brand names in 30 countries, generating an annual turnover of €7.7 billion.
