Internet users to spend over HUF 60,000 on holiday shopping

Hungarians who actively use the internet plan to spend an average HUF 60,400 on gifts this holiday season, more than the HUF 52,300 they had said they planned to spend a year earlier, news agency MTI reports, citing a joint survey by retail portal Arukereso.hu and GKI Digital.

Survey respondents said they planned to buy gifts for seven people on average this year, up from five a year before. Buyers plant to spend HUF 9,000 on average on a gift.

About 77% said they planned to order gifts from webstores, down from 86% last year when the coronavirus pandemic pushed more people towards online purchases.

The most popular items are, as earlier, consumer electronics, clothing, and toys, according to the survey.

The online survey of 1,575 people was conducted in October.
