Lázár: Fidesz could lose a referendum on Sunday closures

If a referendum is held on the recently approved Sunday closure legislation, which restricts retailers from opening on Sundays, the bill will be voted against, Cabinet Chief János Lázár allegedly said at a private meeting this weekend, according to Hungarian online daily index.hu which reposted information published by Népszava.

“Should a referendum be held on the Sunday closure law, Fidesz would lose” Lázár said at the meeting of “Szeretem Magyarországot Klub” (translated as “I Love Hungary Club”), which Népszava says is as secretive as the Bilderberg group.

The National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ) and Hungarian trade unions (LIGA) have initiated a referendum on the matter, and their application is currently being evaluated by the National Election Office.
