Jabil Circuits to staff servicing centre with former Elcoteq employees
American contract electronics manufacturer Jabil Circuit will start operating an electronics products servicing centre in Pecs (SW Hungary) from the end of January, making about 400 new hires, Pecs mayor Zsolt Pava said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Many of the new hires will come from an Elcoteq plant in the city which went bust in the autumn, Mr Pava said. Jabil Circuit Magyarorszag aims to continue to raise headcount at the servicing centre over the next 1-2 years, he added.
Jabil Circuit Magyarorszag managing director Attila Pajor said the decision to bring product servicing to Pecs was made because of the large pool of trained labour with previous experience in servicing electronics products. He added that the support of city leaders was also important.
Mr Pava said the city would "support the company with the help of all conventional means available".
The servicing centre will repair smart phones, computer parts, memory equipment and other telecommunications devices.
Asked if Jabil Circuits Magyarorszag would put the servicing centre in the former Elcoteq plant, Mr Pajor said everything would depend on the outcome of talks.
Jabil Circuit Magyarorszag employs more than 6,000 people at an assembly plant in Tiszaujvaros (E Hungary) and a further 1,100 at a servicing and logistics centre in Szombathely (W Hungary). Revenue of the unit reached HUF 276bn in 2010.
Jabil Circuit has so far invested USD 300m in Hungary.
