The demand for Hungarian medicinal herbs is high, meaning the sector has significant development potential, and Hungary could be self-sufficient in medicinal herbs, the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and the Medicinal Plant Association and Product Council (Gyszt) said in a statement this week.

According to profitline.hu, the production value of the collection and cultivation of medicinal plants and primary processing is around HUF 15 billion-17 bln per year.

Meanwhile, the net sales revenue of primary processing comes to HUF 20 bln-29 bln.

The total market turnover of products containing herbs, aromas, and spices is HUF 60 bln-70 bln, and the estimated net output of the entire sector is HUF 100 bln-120 bln, NAK and Gyszt said in their joint statement.
