Bioethanol fuel available in Hungary from October
Bioethanol-based fuel is expected to be available for refueling car tanks in Hungary from early October, an official of GM South-East Europe said on Friday.
The new ethanol-petrol mixture fuel, dubbed E85 and containing 85% ethanol and 15% petrol, will be offered by one retailer from the autumn and by more retailers later on. The new, green fuel is exempt from excise tax, so it will be about 30%-35% cheaper than ordinary petrol, PR-manager Péter Gál said. Gál said Saab had started offering new types of cars in Hungary with converted engines that run on E85 fuel, and Volvo and Ford were expected to follow suit shortly. Saab estimates that about 5,000 to 10,000 liters of E85 could be sold in Hungary this year at a retail price of Ft 210 per liter. The alcohol plants of Győr, northwest Hungary and Szabadegyháza, central Hungary, will start producing the E85 fuel under an official license from September 1, Gál said.
