Semcorp Plant in Debrecen 'on Schedule'

Work on a factory Shanghai-based Semcorp is setting up in Debrecen (225 km east of Budapest) is moving ahead "on schedule," and test production is expected to start in the first quarter, Semcorp Group's management said in a statement issued by a PR agency, according to napi.hu. 

"Construction and installation of equipment is continuing according to plan," Semcorp VP James Shih said. "We anticipate starting test production this year," he added. 

In November 2020, Semcorp announced plans to build the EUR 183 million lithium battery separator plant in Debrecen, and the cornerstone was laid in September 2021. 

According to press reports, Semcorp's two owners were placed under house arrest in China on suspicion of plans to move the company's capital abroad secretly.
