Ganz to Focus More on Solar Power Development, Sustainability

Ganz Transformer and Electric Rotating Machines has initiated a program focused on significant optimization of energy sustainability within their transformer and electric rotating machine factories.

"As a key player in the energy market, it is extremely important to be pioneers in all solutions that support sustainable operations and the achievement of ESG goals. In addition, we see that sustainable production and operation are becoming more and more important on the part of customers and partners, and these aspirations are priced in by the market,” shares Gergely Gál, executive director of Ganz.

“Our definite goal is to step up in the field of digitization and sustainable operation, further strengthening our market position both at home and abroad," he continues.

The foundation of the investment is to make Ganz's production processes more in line with sustainability aspects, and for the company, as a key player in the energy market, to utilize renewable energy sources to the greatest extent possible.

One of the most significant steps for this project was that the company built a solar power plant in order to ensure the energy supply of its factory in Tapiószele, the main element of the project from a sustainability point of view.

Investment Goals

Ganz is looking to use mechanical engineering solutions in the factory that meet sustainability criteria. According to the company’s plans, the amount of gas consumed would be reduced with a heat pump solution. The company also aims to fully insulate the transformer and rotating machine factories, expected this year.

In addition, Ganz will carry out a review of the entire ventilation system as part of the investment. In order to ensure that the investment does not have a negative impact on the production processes, Ganz has also created a facility development position, thus ensuring uninterrupted operation during the development works.

With the development worth more than EUR 11 million in total, renewable energy will supply a significant part of the energy needs of the Tápiószele factory from 2024.

The company will also apply innovative mechanical engineering solutions in line with ESG goals in the factory, as well as introduce other measures to support energy modernization.

According to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal, Ganz has undergone significant development in the past three years: before the change of ownership, the performance of the Tápiószele factory, which was still on the verge of bankruptcy, has now become stable, and Ganz has again become an internationally recognized brand. Since last year, the company has also taken significant steps in the direction of digitization with the development of an intelligent monitoring system.
