Japanese tire maker Bridgestone celebrated the 15th anniversary of its local unit at the Bridgestone base on the outskirts of Tatabánya on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Addressing the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said Bridgestone's local subsidiary availed of government investment stimulus during the coronavirus crisis and "expanded capacity instead of making layoffs".

Bridgestone Tatabánya Termelő Kft. managing director Melinda Topolcsik said the unit has turned out close to 40 million tires. The more than 1,300 workers at the plant in Tatabánya can now produce 6.5 million tires a year, she added.

Bridgestone Tatabánya Termelő Kft. supplies tires for the Mercedes, BMW, VW, and Audi brands.

The company had net sales revenue of HUF 62 billion in 2020, public records show.
