Value of public procurement contracts up 68% yr/yr in H1
Public procurement contracts worth Ft 840 billion were signed in the first half of 2006, Ft 340 billion or 68% more than in the same period a year earlier, chairman of Hungary's Public Procurement Council Lajos Berényi announced on Thursday.
There were 2,554 public procurement procedures called in H1 2006, 1,215 more than in the same period a year earlier. Among the big projects behind the rise in the number and the value of procedures were the capital's fourth underground line, a purchase of underground trains and the construction of motorways. Infrastructure projects funded with EU cohesion funds also contributed to the increase.
Public procurement procedures are expected to reach Ft 1,700 billion in value this year, Ft 200 billion more than in 2005. The figure includes simplified public procurement procedures, for which figures will not be published until the start of 2007.
