Tax authority fines call-in game shows
Hungary's National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) on Tuesday said it fined 23 organizers of call-in television game shows a combined HUF 27m for conducting illegal gambling operations.
NAV said winning the call-in game shows depend in large part on chance, thus the shows qualify as gambling under the law.
Participants who call the shows are charged a premium rate although there is no guarantee of a connection.
The fines were between HUF 500,000 and HUF 8m apiece.
