Japanese carmaker Suzuki will start making a new sports utility vehicle at its factory in Esztergom, north of Budapest, in December, the company announced. The model is the first mid-sized one Magyar Suzuki will produce at the factory. Suzuki will make the new model, dubbed the "SX4", together with Fiat. The Esztergom factory will turn out 60,000 of the new model, with 20,000 going to Fiat and the rest being sold under the Suzuki name, spokesman for Suzuki's Hungarian unit Tamás Tihanyi said.
The model was designed by Italy's Giorgetto Guigiaro, one of the world's best-known and prolific car designers, but Suzuki has managed the project. The new model will be unveiled at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show, after which sales in Europe will start.
