Mexico’s state oil company Pemex said Tuesday it had signed an agreement with US oil company Chevron on technical and financial staff training for deep-water projects.

“The current agreement aims to offer training covering the technical-financial management of deep-water projects, including the General Development Plan and its implementation,” Pemex said in a statement. The agreement is part of the General Training, Science and Technology Collaboration Convention the companies have been implementing since October 2003. The two companies have been working together since the 1990s. The pact is also part of a Pemex strategy to sign or extend collaboration treaties with the world’s main oil companies, as it did with Canada’s Nexen last week.

In 2006, Pemex exported an average of 1.79 million barrels of crude oil a day and earned more than $34.7 million by doing so. Chevron is the third largest US oil company and has operations in 180 nations. (people.com.cn)
