Lázár discusses Paks upgrade with competition commissioner in Brussels
Cabinet chief János Lázár discussed the upgrade of the Paks nuclear power plant with Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager in Brussels yesterday, the Prime Ministerʼs Office said.
The sides agreed that there are no real obstacles in the way of the investment, although a jointly approved, specific implementation plan is necessary to ensure the project proceeds accordingly, Lázárʼs office said.
The sides also agreed that the process of obtaining permits for the upgrade must be in line with European Union law and in harmony with rules on competition, while at the same time taking place as quickly as possible, the office added. Lázár also met with the head of the Directorate-General for Energy Dominique Ristori to review the licensing procedure for the Paks upgrade.
At a weekly press conference last Thursday, Lázár said he would discuss with Vestager yesterday the supermarket oversight fee, the healthcare contribution payable by tobacco companies and the award of a state concession to companies to supply retail tobacco shops, as well as issues with competition regulation concerning the upgrade of the Paks nuclear power plant.
