Hungary, Taiwan trade deal: Goose for orchids

Hungary and Taiwan agreed to stimulate their trade of agricultural products, the Taiwanese Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA) announced on Saturday, according to the Tapei Times.
Hungary will sell goose products to Taiwan to supplement the nation’s diminished supply following an avian flu outbreak earlier this year as per the terms settled upon at the meeting. Hungary intends to use Taiwan as a new entry point into Asian markets for agricultural goods.Â
In exchange, Hungary will act as the transit point for Taiwan’s orchid exports to European Union markets, according to the AFA Director-General Chen Chien-pin.Â
These new deals will solidify the burgeoning trade relationship between the two countries. The meeting came following the sale of an estimated 205 tons of Hungarian goose meat to Taiwan, and an estimated $120 million worth of Taiwanese orchid products to Hungary last year.
