GVH slaps Auchan with Ft 50 mln fine

The Competition Office (GVH) fined French-owned hypermarket chain Auchan Hungary Kft Ft 50 million for misleading consumers, the GVH announced on Thursday.

The watchdog found fault with Auchan’s promotion leaflets, which regularly advertise certain products as “cheapest”. Also, the chain failed to stock enough DVD players in its pre-Christmas promotion campaign, and was found to have sold a “buy three, get four” packaging of cat food for a higher price than that of four normal bags of the product.
This is the fifth GVH fine for Auchan, which was the reason behind the relatively high fine, the watchdog said.
