Suzuki ups Hungarian output

Japanese carmaker Suzuki turned out 149,438 vehicles at its plant in Hungary in H1 of 2008, 33.3% more than in the same period a year earlier.
Magyar Suzuki sold 151.587 cars in H1, including 14,414 in Hungary - to give it a 17% market share - and 137,173 in other European countries. Total sales rose 30.4% over the same period a year earlier.
Magyar Suzuki said it is expanding in markets in Croatia, Slovakia and Romania by opening new dealerships.
Magyar Suzuki's first-half export revenue fell to Ft 289 billion from Ft 474.7 billion in the same period a year earlier.
The plant in Esztergom has produced more than 1m cars since opening in 1991. It employs 6,000 staff, but its suppliers employ tens of thousands of people. (MTI –Econews)
