New car sales up 3.1% yr/yr in first half
Hungarian car dealerships sold 97,609 new cars and sports utility vehicles in the first half of 2006, 3.1% more than in the same period a year earlier, according to figures compiled by the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE).
Opel took the number two spot on the market, selling 10,657 cars, 3.7% more than a year earlier, although its market share remained unchanged at 10.9%.
Ford was in third place, selling 9,270 cars, a marked 27.9% increase compared to the same period a year earlier. Ford's market share increased from 7.7% to 9.5%. Ford was followed by Skoda (8,493 cars sold), Volkswagen (8,168) and Toyota (6,501).
Dealerships sold 10,786 light commercial vehicles (LCV) under 3.5 tonnes in the first half of 2006, 17.7% more than in the same period a year earlier. Ford sold 2,279 LCVs, 27.7% more than a year earlier. Its market share increased from 9.5% to 21.1%. Dealerships sold 3,0336 commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in the first half of 2006, 2.1% more than a year earlier. Within this group, sales of vehicles over 15 tonnes, rose 4.7% to 1,739. DAF sold 280 trucks, Renault sold 278 and Volvo sold 275.
Bus sales came to 154 in H1 2006, 55.6% more than in the same period a year earlier. Volvo sold 89 buses and Man sold 47.
