New car registrations fall 26% on base effect in Jan
The number of new car registrations plunged 26% to 3,649 in January from the same month a year earlier because of a high base, the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) said on Friday, citing data compiled by DataHouse. MGE said car sales rose sharply in January 2012 as buyers waited to make purchases until a reduction in the registration tax. The number of light commercial vehicle registrations fell 26% to 650 during the period. Heavy commercial vehicle registrations rose 87% to 297. Motorcycle sales were down 22% at 35.
