May retail sales up 4.7% yr/yr
Retail sales increased a calendar year-adjusted 4.7% year on year in May, after rising 4.1% in April, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
Adjusted retail sales volume for the EU-25 increased 2.2% year on year in May. May retail sales in Hungary rose 0.5% from April, according to seasonally- and working day-adjusted data. Retail sales totaled Ft 483.6 billion (€2.72 billion) in May at current prices. In January-May, retail sales increased a calendar year-adjusted 5.5% year on year in volume terms to total Ft 2,157.2 billion at current prices.
In line with EU methodology, the figures do not include sales of vehicles, vehicle parts or fuel. Retail fuel sales volume rose 9.9% year on year in May and 10.4% year on year in January-May. Sales of cars and car parts were up by 6.2% in both May and January-May compared to the same respective periods a year earlier. Retail sales including cars, components and fuel, increased 6.1% year on year in May and 6.2% in January-May.
