The Drégely regional recreational association inaugurated a 1.2 km gokart track, Hungary's longest, on the outskirts of Balassagyarmat (about 67 km north of Budapest) on Friday.

The track, dubbed Palócring, was constructed in a little under one year. The association plans to add additional infrastructure at the track necessary to host international contests next year.

Balázs Weingartner, who heads the Hungarian Motorsport Development Agency (HUMDA), said karting can bring motorsport to a broader audience and is also a channel for discovering talent.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
