Decline in Slovak retail sales slows in March

Retail sales turnover in Slovakia, excluding motor vehicles, decreased 0.8% on an annual basis in March, slower than the 1.8% fall seen in February, the  Bratislava-based Central Statistical Office said in a statement Monday. In January sales had dropped by 1.3%. Sales of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores decreased 1.3% from a year earlier, and trade in automotive fuel dropped by 1.9%. Meanwhile, retail sales and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased 2% annually. On a monthly basis, retail sales turnover declined 0.6%. In the first quarter, sales in the retail sector declined 1.3% from the corresponding period a year earlier.
