BMW's October sales increase, helped by new 3-series models

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the world's largest luxury carmaker, said worldwide sales rose last month as demand for BMW-brand vehicles more than offset a decline in Mini-brand cars.

Sales increased 0.2% from a year earlier to 108,881 cars and sport-utility vehicles, the Munich-based carmaker said in a statement today. Ten-month deliveries rose 3% to 1.13 million units. BMW added new versions of the X3 SUV as well as a 3-Series coupe to revive demand. Sales of the BMW brand reached 94,983 vehicles last month, a 2.4% gain, compared with 94,200 units at DaimlerChrysler AG's Mercedes-Benz, unchanged from a year earlier. Sales at BMW last year reached a record 1.33 million cars and SUVs. The carmaker expects to report record profit and vehicle sales this year. (Bloomberg)
