Audi heads for 12th record year in a row

German luxury carmaker Audi is heading for its 12th record year in a row and aims to be the most successful manufacturer in the sector by 2015, company chairman Rupert Stadler said Monday, on releasing figures for the H1 of 2007.

Audi posted pre-tax profits up 67% on the year at €1.1 billion ($1.5 billion) on a turnover of €17.4 billion ($23.8 billion), up 12%. The Volkswagen subsidiary delivered 509,000 vehicles to customers over the six months, up 10% on the year and passing the half-million mark for the first time in its history. “We are heading at top speed to the 12th record year in succession and well on the way to be the most successful luxury car maker by 2015,” Stadler said. The coming six months see the new A4 model, a key line for the company.

Audi’s home market remained the most important, with 127,112 vehicles delivered, over 55,557 in Britain, the largest foreign market. The marque sold 49,267 vehicles in China and 45,711 in the US. Deliveries to Russian clients rose by as much as 76% to 7,272 vehicles, while growth in the Middle East was also strong, although off a lower base. Audi said car production, including the limited number of Lamborghini supercars, rose 13% to top a record-high 518,000 vehicles. (monstersandcritics.com)
