A gauge of sentiment in Hungary's construction sector by economic research company GKI edged down in March after rising significantly in February, business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Thursday. Companies' assessment of their output in the previous three months worsened in March. Just over half said output had dropped. The percentage of companies who said order stock was lower climbed to 65% in March from 61% in February. Still, the percentage was well under the 73% recorded a year earlier. About 14% of the companies surveyed planned to raise headcount, but 24% said they expected to make layoffs. About 19% of the companies expect prices to fall in the coming three months.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
