HungaroControl makes online airspace reservation system operational
As of the beginning of this year, Hungary’s air traffic control company HungaroControl has been using a new online system to support the firmʼs airspace management activities, referred to as Local and Sub-Regional Airspace Management Support System (LARA), according to a press release issued today. With the introduction of LARA, created by Eurocontrol, HungaroControl has fulfilled its technical obligations nearly one year ahead of schedule, the press release said.
Under the provisions of the LSSIP (Local Single Sky Implementation Program), air navigation service providers are obliged to introduce automated airspace management software systems. HungaroControl said it chose to implement the LARA system, developed by Eurocontrol and provided to member states at no cost.
The key benefits of LARA for airspace users include its fast and simple online use that is intended to replace telephone- and fax-based communications, as well as the visibility of airspace bookings previously entered by other parties into the system, HungaroControl said.
The software is beneficial for airspace management on a European level, as data input into the system are displayed in Eurocontrol’s Network Manager Operational Center, where it is immediately visible if a temporarily restricted airspace becomes unrestricted and once again available to airlines, according to the press release.
